Romsey Baptist Church Open DofE Centre

Romsey Baptist Church operates a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award “Open Centre” at the church.
Training takes place on alternate Monday evenings from 7.30pm, depending on the needs of the current teams in training. The centre trains participants for Bronze and Silver levels of the Award and can arrange Gold level training via the local Award field officers. The Award Group leaders can be contacted via e mail at

What is D of E?

DofE is for young people year nine and above (it needs to be completed by your 24th birthday) and is designed around each participant. There are three levels of Award: Bronze – from year nine, Silver – from year 10 and Gold 16yrs+. You achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five if you are going for Gold). At each level the participant chooses the programme they wish to pursue for the required length of time (the duration of each section depends on the level of Award). These sections are:-

  • Volunteering – helping someone, your community or the environment.
  • Physical – becoming fitter through sport, dance or fitness activities.
  • Skills – developing existing talents or trying something new.
  • Expedition – planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey.
  • Residential – (Gold only) – staying and working away from home as part of a team.

Meetings at the Church on alternate Monday evenings are mainly to provide expedition training so that this section can be successfully completed.  We also provide advice regarding the other sections that are then arranged by the participant and done in their own time.
