Romsey Baptist Church (RBC) is a family friendly church with a strong youth focus but also having a wide age demographic. The preaching is Bible based and our worship style is largely contemporary.
RBC is located near the centre of the community of Romsey, a Hampshire market town between Southampton, Winchester and Salisbury (see Visit Us).
We see our purpose as worshipping God the Father, Son and Spirit; spreading the word of Jesus at home and further afield; growing our faith through discipleship and building a loving community through fellowship. Currently we have around 130 adult members.
As Baptists we believe in baptism by full immersion but our membership is open to all Christians who have made a public commitment to Christ.
RBC is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the Southern Counties Baptist Association, Churches Together in Romsey and the Evangelical Alliance.
We normally have two regular services on Sundays; the morning service starts at 10:30 am but there is some variation to the start time of the evening service – see our Sunday services page for details. We also have a monthly traditional service.
Church Leadership
The church leadership is organised broadly on the principles of the Purpose Driven Church with lay leaders responsible for Administration, Discipleship, Fellowship, Mission and Worship. We also have a treasurer, secretary, and one or more leadership positions without portfolio. The Church (at the time of writing) has a part time Children, Youth & Families Worker, a part time Youth Worker, and a part time Pastoral Care Co-ordinator.
Brief History
The Church celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2000, worshipping in a building that dates from 1811. The buildings have been regularly extended, to include a hall in the 1920s and additional rooms to the south side in 1972; the size of the worship area was increased in 1992. The latest extension was completed early in 2004 giving additional rooms upstairs, complete with another staircase, and better use of the downstairs area behind the sanctuary.
